USMP News: Self Esteem Shoot!

United Sisters has creating working on developing a Art Exhibit title “girls in the mirroR”. This project in partnership with the Contemporary Museum will feature photo by professional photographer Saddi Khal which will show the magic of mentoring while share the experience of 10 girls throughout this project. Our fingers are crossed!!!!!!

Below is sneak peak of one of the “ego” shoots that each girl selected for this project will take part in. Ego shoots are staged scenes that show our mentees things that our mentees place value on whether it be to become a scientist or just to finish High School.

L2TL- Currently Seeking Sponsorship

Though we did not win the Pepsi Refresh Project in 2010, we are still currently seeking financial sponsors to help fund this cutting-edge initiative. With the support of sponsors, each visited school that participates in the L2TL after-school will be grated $2,500, which will provide the institution with equipment and operating costs used to create and coordinate the ongoing afterschool “ i Listen 2 the Lyrics” program.

The “i Listen 2 the Lyrics” afterschool program objective to combine music and health together in a manner that will encourage healthy development of adolescence and  positive behavior that will have a lasting impact on the mind and body. Through this program we aspire to have student analysis what they do and how it affects their minds mentally and their bodies physically.

Information about our project:

This project will visit 55 local high schools and middle schools in 11 urban cities. In each of these schools we will host a listening session where students will learn to detect the message behind the music and develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.

The award is for $250,000. and each school that we visit will receive $2500 to begin thier own “i Listen 2the Lyrics” creative after school program.
